Reminded me of a key post in the evolution of this blog: cosmopolitanism (or the implosion of nationalism)
So true. I believe that patriotism is related, to a certain degree, to individualistic values (or just caring for one country). Now, if we truly understand the concept of citizenship -contributing to the betterment of the community- then we can certainly understand what global citizenship means. And there is so much work to do!
However, I don’t see many people talking about this or acting on it unless that’s their job. So, I encourage you to bring to the table more of these conversations so that this shift occurs faster!
Can I be a little cynical here? I totally agree with Chris Anderson’s quote, but I find it quite funny that Starbucks brands the whole thing. I think a “global citizen” or its “global corporate” equivalent such as Starbucks should definitely review its fair-trade policies, labor relations and practices against competition in order to truly embrace the concept of globalism and cosmopolitanism…
Is it possible that a brand becomes obsessed with being the brand it preaches? Whoever started TWISI must have realized they were hacking the brand somehow, but as usual it was impossible to predict that people would catch up with it.

Perhaps. I might still have the Starbucks back four years ago in mind. They don’t seem to be as aggressive and anti-competitive when they want to open a new store… but maybe that’s because they keep closing so many since January. I’m also not quite sure about the evolution of fair-trade policies. But yeah, the brand may evolve slowly and become different, that’s good.
